Bends create meaning – art meets design
Palace of Un/Learning is the title of an exhibition being staged by the German Architecture Centre DAZ in Berlin, which is a sort of laboratory for architecture with a difference, a space for discussion and action to develop ideas for multi-perspective, mindful and fairer architecture.
interstil sponsored the complex hanging system for the installation of the “Collective Skin Curtain”. A 35 mm flat rod was used which is ideal for use as a room divider thanks to its symmetrical design. The special feature of the installation included the oversized length of the system and the large number of bends with different radii within its length. The system was prefabricated in a total of four sections and was finally assembled on site using rod connectors to create a single track with a length of around 21 m.
The ceiling mounting method was something to behold. Specially made oversize ceiling brackets were required to enable the system to be attached to the existing bars.
